1st Major Engine Project

This is the first major engine project where I did all the work. Previously I had installed a Weber carburetor that I could never get tuned properly, so it always ran rich.  In this project I pulled it out and went with an MC2100 I purchased on eBay from a guy associated with the Ultimate Jeep message board.

This project had the front end of the Jeep apart for several weeks.  The installation included:

bulletMC2100 Carburetor
bulletGM HEI Ignition
bulletComplete Painless Wiring Kit
bulletThe Chevy Blazer blower motor upgrade
bulletHeater core and all coolant system hoses

Here is a shot of the front-end off the Jeep during the project

This side view shows most of the replacement equipment installed like the distributor, hoses, etc.

The blower motor upgrade requires enlarging of the stock hole. I had owned the same Dremel for over nine years. It gave its life to enlarge that hole.

Another look at the firewall.

Here is the new motor installed. I used black RTV to seal around the intalled motor.

This is the Weber carb I first installed but could never get to run correctly.

This is the MC2100 carb that replaced the Weber. Note the batck for mounting the throttle return spring. Fortunately, the Weber accelerator linkage was compatible with the MC2100, so no other modificattions were needed.

The MC2100. Note: I use a mechanical choke.

One more shot of the MC2100. I run it with a 9" by 2" round K&N filter with a K&N X-treme 9" air flow filter top.

Here is the stock type Motorcraft distributor. I had just had to replace me old one with this one a month earlier due to a shaft failure.

This is the Motorcraft ignition controller that was no longer needed. It is cleverly hidden underneath the windshield fluid and coolant overflow bottles.

Here is the HEI installed and wired. (Much bigger and 12V all the time)

Another shot of the HEI installed.

Here the HEI is connected to the spark plugs.

Here is the considerably cleaner new fuse panel installed.
